More Reasons our Agricultural Land is too Important to Lose

Not only is the old Guernsey Dell (aka Goodfield Farm or Great Meadowbrook) property under state Agricultural Protection Restriction (APR) program regulation, but it is also regulated under the state of MassWildlife's Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program (NHESP).

The NHESP indicated that the parcel indicated as 228 Barre Rd (subject property) is currently partially mapped as Priority Habitat for rare species. Above is the updated 2021 mapping of the property. The yellow area in image shows this habitat.

Nearly the entire subject property is mapped by the state NHESP as Estimated and Priority Habitat for Rare Species, with the exception of an area around the barn. Therefore, any major development of the subject property would require review and approval by NHESP under the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act (MESA).
